Back in fourth grade, I used to spend hours playing Runescape. At the time, I thought it was the most exciting and adventurous game out there. However, it’s been about nine years since I have last played the game, so I am very behind on the latest additions and enhancements. In any case, if you are an active player, you will be happy to know that you can play this on your Chromebook.
Now to do this, we are going to use the unofficial Linux client. So of course, you will need to have Linux installed on your Chromebook. Check out my tutorial, if you do not have it installed already. Also, this will only work for the Intel powered Chromebooks. As far as performance, well, it’s playable. I am probably averaging around 10fps on my Acer C720. If you have a Chrombook that’s rocking a more powerful CPU, then you should get better performance. Now, let’s see how to play Runescape on Chromebook.
What You Will Need:
- Chromebook with Linux Installed
Step 1: Download Installer
Start your Linux installation from Chrome OS. Open up terminal and type in the following:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:hikariknight/unix-runescape-client
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install unix-runescape-client
Then to launch, type in runescape
Step 2: Graphics
So now the game should be up and running. There are a few graphics problems that you might run into. First off, for the overall performance, I would recommend changing the game to Legacy mode. Also, inside of your graphics settings, make sure to set the rending resolution to the lowest possible value (800×600). There is also a strange black flickering that happens, which I have not been able to figure out how to stop. Leave any comments below if you have a suggestion.
